The development course and the present situation of special engineering plastics on the international

Special engineering plastics is an international since 60's of the twentieth Century to the beginning of the 80's, the US Soviet cold war arms race in two pa social demand for a new generation of high performance polymer materials developed. Polyphenylene sulfide is used most widely, the largest species is known to American, Philip and Japanese companies such as Wu Yu, has formed the size of more than thirty thousand tons. So prices than other varieties are greatly reduced.

The late (1981 commercialization) development of PEEK resin, the current market scale minimum at about 2000t/y, and the price is the highest, the Japanese market for 13000 yen ($118 /Kg) /Kg.

A special engineering plastics, compared with other main characteristics of two kinds of materials can be summarized as follows:

1) physical properties:

A. heat level high (generally defined as UL temperature index of more than 150 DEG C);

B. mechanical strength (general for general plastic 2~4 times);

C. has excellent comprehensive performance (such as radiation resistance, temperature resistance, weather resistance).

2) processing technology:

A. high processing temperature (usually in 300~400 ℃);

B. injection pressure (usually 120MPa~160MPa);

C. (general purpose plastics mold must be heated and cooling on the contrary);

D. hot runner is preferred.

3) with high additional value (usually between 1~10 million dollars per ton, for dozens of times of general plastics);

4) a long induction period of market development.

5) the variety is monopolized by a few large production and supply.

From 1981 to 1993 12 years, the market scale will reach about 400t/y. From 1993 until after a period of rapid growth, nearly ten years the average growth rate reached 15% per year.
